Christmas – for many people the most magic and beautiful time of the year, for some the most stressful and for some maybe even painful (for their wallets). In general, we all love it! We prepare for it two or some of us even three months in advance and then – one day, one evening and it’s gone! Still the magic is worth it.
After Christmas Day there is another time everyone is looking for – time of SALES! The day after Christmas every showcase in the city proudly wears signs with numbers. The higher numbers the better, just put the percentage sign at the end. It starts with 25% (usually that’s minimum vendors use) and goes up to 50% or even 70%! But what about the price tags? Do the numbers on it change, too?
Before Christmas not a lot of us care about sales so much, let’s be realistic – we just want to get the stuff and go out before the shopping centers explode as no more people can fit there. Before Christmas we think of our children, family members and our friends. But who do we think of AFTER Christmas? Yes, right – of ourselves! Because the after-Christmas sales are there for us to finally buy what WE wanted and what WE really like and it’s great because it is ALL IN SALE!
But do we really get the goods cheaper or is it just that it looks like it? It seems that most of shop owners chose a perfect strategy. They show people great signs with great sales numbers and get people in their shops. The discount has to be shown on the goods, too. So they just add one little paper (usually red so you notice how big the sale is) and….they leave the price tag as it was. In better cases they put a little sticker over the original price with new price that doesn’t really differ.
Of course not all everywhere they do it like this. Especially in big shopping malls they cannot use such a strategy and so the discounts are true. But it is funny how blindly trustful we are and how easily we can be cheated.
